Review # 26: The Office!: A Musical Parody (Off-Broadway)

Bears, Beets, Battlestar Galactica, and more all are waiting for you inside this review of The Office!: A Musical Parody, that is currently playing off-broadway in New York City. So come a see what this musical version of the Scranton branch of Dunder Mifflin Paper Company has in store!

Plot: Based on the 2005 comedy television series called The Office, The Office!: A Musical Parody sums up all nine seasons into a two-hour long musical. The musical joins regional manager, Michael Scott as he and his co-workers (Jim, Dwight, Pam, Andy, Angela, Kelly, and other characters) create some mayhem at Dunder Mifflin. In the show, you will get to see all of the same iconic moments and phases from the television series. There was not that much to say about the story. Although, some parts of the show were extremely confusing since they tried to cram the whole television series into a two-hour time slot. However, the show was very entertaining and fun to watch. Just like the T.V. show, this musical will make you laugh out loud. Overall, the plot was alright.

Characters: All the characters in the show stayed true to their original roles on the T.V. show. Michael Scott was still pretty annoying to everyone in the office. Dwight and Jim were still pulling pranks on each other. Also, Jim and Pam had some beautiful moments together. It was cool to see all the characters say their iconic lines such as "That's What She Said" or "Bears Beets, Battlestar Galactica" and more. However, most of the cast changed roles most of the show, so it was disappointing that you could not see some characters react with other characters since the same actor plays both parts. Other than that, the characters were fun and enjoyable to see live on stage.

Songs: For the most part, the songs in this show were completely forgettable. There was only a handful you could remember such as the opening number, Michael's "That's What She Said" song, and Andy's song. Other than those songs, the rest of the songs were just a blur and no one would be coming out of the theater singing them. Overall, they could have done a better job writing the songs just to make them a little bit more rememberable.

Sets: The sets in the show definitely made you feel like you were in an office. The sets team did a great job making the sets look like the actual sets from the show. Also, the way the did the sets were so quick that they did not waste any stage time getting ready. Overall, the sets were realistic and stayed true to the original source material.

Overall, The Office!: A Musical Parody was really fun to see. I recommend adults, teenagers, and kids over the age of seven to come see this show. I also recommend fans of the television series should come to see this show as well. Kids younger than seven should not go since there is a bit of strong language and inappropriate jokes during the show. Also, hardcore Broadway fans would not enjoy this production since it not your typical musical. I recommend taking those people to see something like The Lion King or Frozen. This musical is closing on January 13, 2020! So don't wait until Pretzel Day to get your tickets! So go see The Office!: A Musical Parody.
