Review # 13: Mean Girls

So I've seen this super fetch show the other day, called Mean Girls. So get your pink on and enjoy my review of Mean Girls!

Plot: The plot is similar to the 2004 movie with the same name. The story is about Cady (pronounced Katie) Heron, who grew up in Africa as a homeschooler now moving to Illinois as a regular high school student at North Shore High School. Cady meets two outsiders named Damian and Janis and they become her friends at North Shore, showing Cady that this is where she belongs, until The Plastics notice Cady. Karen, Gretchen, and Regina who are The Plastics are the most popular girls in school. The Plastics want Cady to join their group. Janis warns Cady about the leader of The Plastics, Regina, and how she is nothing like everyone else at North Shore. Cady joins them thinking that there is no harm in Regina and her friends. Cady also meets Aaron, a boy in her math class that she has a crush on. Regina finds out about Cady's crush on Aaron (who is Regina's ex-boyfriend) and Regina takes him back. Furious, Cady realizes that Regina is no good and she must be stopped. So Cady, Janis, and Damian decide to plan revenge on Regina. Will Regina be stopped? Will Cady and Aaron end up together? And will Damian sing breakout with a show tune-y number? Find out in Mean Girls. The plot was amazing. Everyone in the cast seemed to enjoy retelling the 2004 movie in a modern setting. The plot was fun, super energetic and very enjoyable.

Characters: In this show, all the characters were awesome. Janis (Barrett Wilbert Weed) and Damian (Grey Henson) who also helped narrate the show were so funny. Karen (Kate Rockwell) was hilarious with her songs and lines. Gretchen (Ashley Park) is so relatable and energetic to see preform. Cady (Erika Henningsen) and Aaron (Kyle Selig) were so adorable together in their scenes. Kevin G. (Cheech Manohar) was very funny and very geeky to see perform on stage. And even the queen bee herself Regina George (Taylor Louderman) was so powerful and stunning to see in person. She can actually give you chills. Tina Fey, the writer really made it seem like Regina was a real mean girl in a real high school. Overall the characters are so amazing and loveable! It's so hard not to like anyone in the cast.

Songs: Most of the songs in Mean Girls were a mix of pop and classic musical theater. When the show started the band played this amazing theme that you knew something was going to happen after you heard it. Songs for example as I'd Rather Be Me, Revenge Party, Stupid In Love, Sexy, Stop, Where Do You Belong, and What's Wrong With Me will get stuck in your head for you to sing-along. Also, how could I forget the most powerful song in the whole show! World Burn was amazing it made you feel like something crazy is going to happen, and surely it does. All the songs, even the songs I did not mention are all special in its own way.

Sets: Just like Anastasia, the sets were projections. Each scene was better with these video sets behind it. At first, you could be in Africa with Cady and then next you could be in North Shore High! It was so cool to watch and read the background. It's amazing to see and I recommend checking it out!

Overall, Mean Girls was amazing. The only thing is some iconic lines such as "Is Butter A Carb?" and "It's Like I Have ESPN or something!" and "I'm A Mouse DUH." was cut from the show, but don't worry most of the iconic lines stayed like "That's So Fetch!" and "You Go, Glen Coco!" and " She Doesn't Even Go Here!" stayed in the musical. Also, some scenes were cut as well such as the small health scene about what Cady had missed in Health class and that scene backstage before the Winter Talent Show, was cut but, they have been replaced with funnier and cooler scenes. Mean Girls isn't a good show to take 11 and under too. There are some cursing and some scenes that are too unfit for kids to watch. I recommend teens and adults should totally see this show about fitting in and finding where you belong. I also recommend fans who loved the movie should see it too. I mean you can't sit with them but you can sit in the audience! So come see Mean Girls on Broadway!
