Review 42: Peter Pan Goes Wrong

Hello! I can't believe this is my second review of a play! A few days ago I saw Peter Pan Goes Wrong. Is it as funny as they say? Find out in this review!

Plot: This Broadway play is inspired by a television special that was featured on The Goes Wrong Show. This play is also considered to be a sister play to The Play That Goes Wrong, mostly because it has the same creators and both shows have people from the fictional Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society perform in them. Just as I said in The Play That Goes Wrong review, the plot of Peter Pan Goes Wrong is basically the title of the show. The Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society is back and this time they are doing a production of Peter Pan. However, nothing in the show runs as smoothly as they hoped. There is a lot of techincal mishaps, injuries, and backstage drama during the performance. It seems that anything that can go wrong will go wrong. I thought the show was funny and entertaining as the The Play That Goes Wrong. Although I must say I did enjoy The Play That Goes Wrong better for it's orginality and better writing, but maybe it's because I saw The Play That Goes Wrong first and Peter Pan Goes Wrong takes a lot of jokes and slapstick from that show. Nonetheless, Peter Pan Goes Wrong is still a fun show to see whether you saw The Play That Goes Wrong or not.

Characters: Although Peter Pan Goes Wrong and The Play That Goes Wrong had a simlair cast of charcaters, I felt that there was a little bit more background on the members of the Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society in this show. For example, the actor who plays Peter Pan is a womanizer who is currently dating the actress who plays Wendy. However, the actor who plays Michael/The Crocodile is in love with the actress who plays Wendy, but has an awkard time expressing his love. I also enjoyed the hilarious uncle/niece relationship that the actress who plays Tootles and the actor who plays Nana/Pirate have. The actress who plays Tootles is really nervous and has stage-fright but her uncle doesn't care and forces her on stage anyways. Last but not least, I thought the actor who played Mr. Darling/Captain Hook was the funniest character in the show. He got so frusterated when things in the show didn't run smoothly and he even interacts with audience a few times. Despite that I didn't remember what the charcater's real names are, I really enjoyed how the characters put their own personality into the characters they were playing in Peter Pan

Sets: Now there isn't that much to say about the set mostly because it gets destroyed anyways. However, I thought it was cool they had this rotating set on stage where it showed each scene. It had three set pieces, one for the Darling children's bedroom, another for Peter Pan's hideout, and the last one being the Neverland seas. There even one part of the play where the stage is constantly rotating revaling what is going on backstage. I also thought the sets were aesthetically pleasing to look at even though they would eventually get destroyed.

Overall Peter Pan Goes Wrong is a comedic disater but in a good way as this show will make you laugh out loud. Personally I think everyone of all ages with a good sense of humor should go see it. However, this show does include scenes where the actors and actress have a wardobe mafuction and they are left their undergarments. There is also a few sexual innuendos in the show as well. If you aren't comfortable with any of that then I suggest you go see a different show. Other than that you should go see Peter Pan Goes Wrong before it's limited run ends on July 23rd!
