Review # 28: Six

Divorced, Beheaded, Died. Divorced, Beheaded, Survived. But just for this review, we're Divorced, Beheaded, Live! A couple of days ago, I went to see the worldwide sensation, Six. Is it as good as everyone says it is? Find out in my review of Six.

Plot: Six is a historical, pop musical about the six wives of Henry The Eighth (Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, Katherine Howard, and Catherine Parr). All of the six queens came together to create a band. However, there is one problem. Who will be the lead singer of their new band? The Queens decide that they will each sing a song about who had it the worst when they were married to Henry. Then, whoever the audience thinks had it the worst gets to be the lead singer. But, will this competition get out of hand and make them lose focus on what's really important? Find out in Six! For the most part, that's really all there is for the plotline of Six. Six is more of a concert-style musical then it is as a traditional musical. However, despite the lack of plot, Six really fun to see live, as it gives women the power to tell their own story an not let a man define who they are.

Characters: Even with a small cast, Six The Musical does not disappoint. I enjoyed the fact that all six queens were given their own separate personalities. Catherine of Aragon was confident and strong. Anne Boleyn was so rebellious, comedic and adorable to watch live. Jane Seymour was so pure and sweet to the other queens. Anne of Cleves was bold and she didn't let Henry stop her for loving the person that she is. Katherine Howard was amazing, and she wasn't afraid of roasting the other queens. Lastly, Catherine Parr gave this female empowerment vibe to everyone. Letting everyone know that they should tell their own story and not letting anyone else define who they are. I loved all the queens and their personalities! Hopefully, there will be more female characters like these women in the future.

Songs: The songs in the show were so powerful and even historical. Even though the queens did not start a band in real life, they would each sing their history in their songs. I enjoyed how each queen got her own song and then they would come together to sing one big song. Songs such as "Ex-Wives", "Don't Lose Ur Head", "The Haus of Holbein", "Get Down", "All You Wanna Do" and the title song "Six" stand out. However all the songs in this show were so spectacular to listen too and even if you don't see the show, the cast album is just as good.

Sets: There is not much to say about the sets of Six The Musical. Since this musical is more of a concert musical, they set up the sets like a concert. However, they had some cool lighting in the back of them while there were performing. However, the only thing I wished they has more of was having some lights wave around in the audience to make it feel like an actual concert. However, all the sets were okay, but not the highlight of the musical.

Overall, Six is a great show to see. People of all ages would all love this musical (especially women who like good female leads) However, this musical does involve a little cursing, but not that much. History buffs and people who like concerts would also like this musical as well. So what are you waiting for? Check out the queendom that everyone is talking about! Go see Six on Broadway!
