Review # 18: Be More Chill

So a long time ago I saw the hit Off-Broadway show, Be More Chill. Since it's now on broadway, I thought it was time to review it! Now that I have seen it on Broadway! So let's get to the review!

Plot: The story is similar to the 2004 novel with the same name. Its story is about a teenager named Jeremy Heere. Jeremy is unpopular and not cool. He is so unpopular that he only has one friend named Michael. Jeremy has a crush on a girl named Christine, who he hangs out with at play rehearsal. However, Christine is with Jake, a much more popular guy. Jeremy sees that he has no chance with Christine and gives up all hope. Rich, one of Jeremy's classmates tells Jeremy that he should get a Squip. A Squip is a pill-sized supercomputer that you take to help you be cool, or in other words, chill. Jeremy decides that he needs a Squip and decides to take it. Will this pill make him become popular? If so, will he be able to do all the things he wanted to do? Will he still be friends with Michael? And will he get the girl of his dreams? Find out in Be More Chill. The story was fun and enjoyable to watch. Totally will make you have a great time.

Characters: With a limited cast, this show still rocks it. Will Roland who plays Jeremy Heere shows that it's so hard to be a teenager. Characters like Christine, Rich, Jenna, Brooke, Jake, Chloe, and even Jeremy's father bring so much fun on to the stage. The Squip himself was like a living nightmare. George Salazar who plays Michael brought the sadness and realistic characteristics that gave the show much more enjoyable. The cast of characters was great! Even for a small cast.

Songs: All the songs that Joe Iconis had written are amazing. They relate to so many teens today, with wanting to fit in and survive, Like the first song More Than Survive. Other songs like Smartphone Hour (Rich Set a Fire), Two-Player Game, The Guy That I Kinda Be Into, The Squip Song, and The Pants Song where so much fun and filled with so much energy. The new song, Losers, Geeks, Whatevers, sung by Jeremy is so enjoyable to see live. Be More Chill Parts One and Two, and The Pitiful Children will totally fill you with the creeps. Speaking of creeps, who can forget the most popular song in the show? Michael in the Bathroom. This hit song will make you cry. So the songs are totally enjoyable and will make you want to sing along.

Sets: The sets are similar to the sets in Mean Girls and Anastasia. They have projections that go on the walls, showing what the characters are doing or where the characters are going. The sets are very fun and enjoyable to see live

Overall Be More Chill is a beautiful show. I recommend taking mostly teens to see this show. Adults who enjoyed seeing Dear Evan Hansen or Little Shop Of Horrors (Since the show is similar to that) should see it as well. Kids, however, might be too young to see it since it has some topics that might not be fitting for kids. Fans of the book should go see this show as well. Get ready because New York City is getting an upgrade! So go see Be More Chill!
